This will be the 19th meeting between Independence and Benton Community with the first meeting occurring on September 18th, 1987. Since that first meeting, Independence is 4-5-0 against the Bobcats at home and 2-7-0 at Van Horne. Overall, the Bobcats lead the series 12-6-0. The last meeting occurred in 2007, where the Bobcats won the meeting 42-6.

Justin Putz is in his 3rd season as head coach of the Independence Mustangs and 4th overall. Currently, his record at Independence is 9-10-0. His overall coaching record is 14-15-0 in four seasons with three playoff appearances.
