The Independence Mustangs are part of the WaMac High School Conference. The conference is made up of 13 mid-size schools in central Iowa, including; Beckman Catholic, Benton Community, Center Point-Urbana, Clear Creek Amana, Independence, Maquoketa, Marion, Mount Vernon, Solon, South Tama, Vinton-Shellsburg, West Delaware, and Williamsburg.
